Due to sudden death of Bhuma nagi Reddy after he suffered a heart attack the election commision of india has decided to conduct bypolls on 23-08-2017 for which 80 percent voter turnout has been registered and more women voters too than men. For the first time in india a Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was used in the by-election. this is a machine which dispenses a slip with the symbol of the party for which a person has voted for and the slip drops in a box but the voter cannot take it. now the main stiff competition is between Silpa Chandra Mohan Reddy of YSRCP and Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy of the TDP. however the other candidates are Gaddam Abdul Khadar of congress (INC), Ravu Subrahmanyam, Shaik Mahaboob Basha, Gajula Abdul Sattar, Bhavanasi Pullaiah, Naga Naveen Muddam, Raghavendra, S Raghunadha Reddy, Sanga Lakhsmikantha Reddy, Reddappa Valligatla, Bala Subbaiah.A, P.Guruvaiah, Bhupanapati Narasimhulu. 238 polling stations were setup for the bypolls. for the information Nandyal assembly constituency is situated in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh which has 176 assembly seats in total. The date of issue of Gazette Notification was on 29-07-2017 (29th july), last Date of Nomination was on 05-08-2017 (5th August), date of Scrutiny of Nomination was on 07-08-2017 (7th august) and the last Date of Withdrawal of Candidatures was on 09-08-2017 (9th august). Bhuma nagi Reddy was first elected in the by-election to the AP Legislative Assembly in the year 1992 after the death of his brother Bhuma Sekhar Reddy who was then a sitting MLA from Allagadda constituency. he became more popular when he was chosen as the TDP candidate in 1996 to contest against P.V. Narasimha Rao in the elections to the Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency and he eventually lost by a slight margin. when PV Narasimharao resigned the seat bhuma won the election conducted again for the empty position for 11th loksabha from TDP and went on to be MLA for 3 terms. in 2014 he won as YSR Congress candidate, but jumped over to the Telugu Desam Party or TDP in 2016.
